Frequently Asked Questions

What types of soil can a trench rammer compact?

Trench rammers are versatile and can compact a variety of soil types, including gravel, sand, and cohesive soils like clay.

How do I know when the soil is adequately compacted?

The soil's resistance to the trench rammer's impact increases as it becomes more compacted. When the rammer begins to bounce rather than penetrate the soil, it's likely the soil is adequately compacted.

What is the difference between a vibrating plate (wacker plate) and a trench rammer?

The main difference is that whilst vibrating plates (or 'wacker plates') use vibration to compact the ground, trench rammers use impact force to compact the ground. This is ideal for compacting in tight spaces and for compacting cohesive soils with high clay content, as the direct impact force transfers energy more effectively into these soils than vibration does, therefore compacting them more effectively.
